The reference numbers of Headley parish registers.
The explanation for the gap in the numbering sequence above appears to be that
the register now called PSH/HED/1/1 was in three parts when it was deposited,
and was thus given three numbers, but was subsequently rebound as one volume.
There are therefore no volumes now called PSH/HED/1/2 or 1/3. This also explains
a discrepancy in the page numbers quoted for this register. The page numbers
shown below for Original Registers I, II and IIA (see below) are peculiar in
that the third volume is numbered first, followed by the second, then the first
volume. When viewed on fiche it is sometimes these page numbers which are seen,
and sometimes a more logical page numbering system which seems to have been
superimposed later where the oldest page is p.1 and the latest is p.188.
