Baptismal Registers for All Saints, Headley

Marriage Registers for All Saints, Headley

Burials Registers for All Saints, Headley

The reference numbers of Headley parish registers.
The explanation for the gap in the numbering sequence above appears to be that the register now called PSH/HED/1/1 was in three parts when it was deposited, and was thus given three numbers, but was subsequently rebound as one volume. There are therefore no volumes now called PSH/HED/1/2 or 1/3. This also explains a discrepancy in the page numbers quoted for this register. The page numbers shown below for Original Registers I, II and IIA (see below) are peculiar in that the third volume is numbered first, followed by the second, then the first volume. When viewed on fiche it is sometimes these page numbers which are seen, and sometimes a more logical page numbering system which seems to have been superimposed later where the oldest page is p.1 and the latest is p.188.

Note considerable overlap of Regs. 5,6,7 – between 1695 and 1708, for example, the same burials are recorded in all three registers, and they do not always agree with regard to dates and names! Transcriptions made by K. V. Elphinstone 1954

Note: Originals of Headley church records are held in Surrey History Centre, Woking rather than in Hampshire Record Office – this is because the parish lies in the Diocese of Guildford, and Guildford is in Surrey!

Headley civil records (eg. census returns, etc) are held in the Hampshire Record Office archives at Winchester. Confusing, isn't it?
