Introduction

2025 is the 125th anniversary of an agreement between Montagu Knight of Chawton House and Ralston Balch of the Absent-Minded Beggar Relief Corps whereby the Corps secured land in Chawton on which to build a hospital.  The intention was that it would be used for soldiers returning from the Boer War.
Things did not work out as planned ... and eventually in 1908 it became the Lord Mayor Treloar Hospital.
